When Sylpheed sends PGP-signed mail, the GnuPG signature is bad if it sends with "Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable" and there are escaped characters in the sent message source. Escaped characters are always present when including a message body signature and using "-- " as the separator, which is escaped as "--=20", or when replying to a message quoting blank lines.

The GnuPG signature is good if Sylpheed sends PGP-signed mail with "Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64" or if it sends mail without any escaped characters in the message source.

It appears Sylpheed 3.5.1 has corrected this problem.

The Encyclopedia entry for GnuPG is a nice starting read.
